AGM 2023

Date: 13th Sep 2023 Author: David Legassick

It’s the time of year when we need to have our annual general meeting to comply with scouting regulations and this year.
You all contribute financially to the group and it is important that you see how the money is spent. The accounts are available on our website here. Our treasurer is happy to answer your questions at any time of the year, not just at the AGM. The following are members of the Group Council:

1. All adult members of the Scout Group
2. All Patrol Leaders in the Scout Section
3. Parents/carers of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts
4. Explorer Scouts based at Compton
5. Parents/carers of Explorers based at Compton
6. A representative of Compton Methodist Church
7. The District Commissioner – John Davies
8. The District Trustee Board Chair – Martin Lisburn

As a Group Council, we need to approve what happened in the last financial year and appoint the trustees for the coming year. Our scout group is a registered charity and we need to appoint our trustees correctly.
The current office holders are:
Chair – Brian Boucher as nominated by Nigel Norris MBE
Secretary – Lindsay Woodford
Treasurer – Rosauro Aala

All three are willing to continue in these roles for the coming year. However, the AGM would be the occasion for anyone wanting to remove these officeholders to do so.

So to allow you to question the treasurer about the accounts and to be able to affect who are the officeholders we shall hold a brief AGM on Friday 22 September between 18.15 and 18.45 with bus racing to follow. The Beavers Cubs and Scouts are not having normal meetings. Any questions for the office holders can also be sent to them via the section leaders.

We are always keen to welcome others onto the Trustee Board and in fact, we need people to take some of the strain off our amazing leaders behind the scenes so that they can get on with planning and delivering the weekly programmes. There is some online training and a DBS required but nothing too onerous.

The following members are ex-officio and prepared to stand again in addition to The Chair, Secretary and Treasurer named above:
Group Scout Leader Nigel Norris MBE
Beaver Scout Leader – Jenny Dibben
Cub Scout Leader – Paul King
Scout Leader – Clive Deacon

In addition, we can have 6 elected members and up to a further 6 nominated by Nigel the Group Scout Leader ie a total of 12):
Currently, in this area, we have Natalie Grolsch, David Organ, Joe Lock, Sue Burns, and Steve Taylor.  So there are quite a few vacancies.

We are specifically in need of people to help maintain and keep an eye on our equipment including an inventory, volunteers to help maintain our website and keep it current and someone to help ensure risk assessments and safety and maintenance at our campsite at Shaugh.

Please let us know if you can help. You don’t have to be a parent to do these jobs so think about your wider family and friends for us.
