27th Plymouth Scout Meeting Places
Our normal weekly meetings take place in the Compton Methodist Church Hall, Revel Road, Higher Compton. This is just a little bit further along Eggbuckland Road from the Tesco 24 hour store and next to the Rising Sun Pub.
Directions to our Campsite
To get to Shaugh, follow the A386 towards Tavistock and Yelverton. Just after the Belliver Industrial Estate roundabout, take the first right, signed Bickleigh and Shaugh Prior.
Pass through Bickleigh Village and beside the military base. Take the first left signed Shaugh Prior. Follow this for about 2 miles all the way to Shaugh Bridge.
There are 2 car parks, one on each side of the bridge. We recommend the larger one on the East side as it is busier and safer, but do not leave valuables and things on display.
On the right hand side of the river going downstream is a wooden gate and a path to our campsite about 100 metres downstream. The land is privately owned and not a public right of way.

About the Campsite
The land belongs to Maristow Estate who let us use the site by means of an annual licence. We are not allowed to sublet or rent out the site in any way to other users.
The current hut was built in 1971 by 13th Devonport Scouts and passed to us in 1985 when they closed. The hut was built with help from ECC and Wimpey Homes. It has one major makeover in the late 90s with help of a small lottery grant.
Maintenance is the responsibility of the Groups parents committee and maintenance is co-ordinated by Ian Rooke to make sure the hut is safe, secure and ready to use when the different sections want it. We aim to have at least one annual workday when many hands can join in, but Ian would be pleased to hear from anyone with particular building skills, time or enthusiasm to help out.
It is a fantastic resource and so many young people have tales to tell of their visits to the site. Long may it continue.
