Scouts - a section for the 10½-14 Year Olds
Scouts are the 'original' section of the Scout Association, for both boys and girls in the 10 ½ to 14 year old age range.
Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme.
"Participation" rather than meeting set standards is the key approach and for the Scout who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements there are a number of Challenges Awards and Activity Badges.
Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and helps develop their creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes.
Being outdoors is important and half the Programme is given over to taking part in both the traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking as well as the wide range of adventurous activities, anything from abseiling to yachting.
The international aspect gives Scouting a special appeal and many Scouts now travel abroad during their time in the Section.
In 2007 40,000 Scouts from around the World attended the World Jamboree in the UK, and Scouts regularly participate in International camps and experiences both on home soil and abroad, each of them a unique experience in its own right.
Scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team,
participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life.
On My Honour, I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to the Queen,
To help other people
And to keep the Scout Law.
The Scout Laws are:
Be Prepared.

Scout Section Report 2010/11
I am pleased to start my report by saying that during the year of the report six members of the Troop completed their Chief Scout Gold Awards – the highest award in the Scout Section and one more than last year. There is a lot more that could be done by scouts themselves to gain activity badges and awards for activities and hobbies they follow outside of scouts and it has been interesting to have introduced the idea of them sewing badges on during Troop night. This will be continued.
We were once again lucky to gain places for four Scouts to have flying lessons at an aviation camp in North Devon and had a fantastic Summer Camp in (Tolmers). We have continued to support the County Scout Camp at Woodlands Leisure Park in Dartmouth. We finished the year off with a Halloween themed camp at Shaugh with some spooky goings on.
The troop took part in the individual climbing competition and in addition and won the tug of war in May 2010, though the scouts did not get the trophy as I left it at the engravers for a year! There is a disappointing lack of challenging district activities at this time and we have concentrated on our own programme.
The Christmas party was a fun night ice skating at the Pavillions.
I am grateful as ever to Clive and John and Chris as assistant leaders, other leaders from all the other sections and young leaders from the Explorer Section who keep both the troop and me on track are also invaluable help.
Another exciting programme in 2011/12 is already well under way with our major expedition to Sweden, a return to the Malvern Challenge in Cheltenham Woodlands and amore places at the aero camp. At the time of the AGM the Scout Troop is again full to capacity (28) despite 8 moving to explorers. Plans are also being made for our summer camp in 2012 to Oxford.
